Welcome to Equinoxio, Center for Linguistic and Cultural Studies in Cuenca, Ecuador
Located in Southern Ecuador, we are a center for studying various languages, including Spanish, Quichua, and English. Our directors have over 30 years of experience in teaching and administration, supported by a team of friendly and knowledgeable teachers and staff.
With us, you can enjoy a full immersion in the Spanish language through our daily academic and cultural activities, such as city tours, Ecuadorian cuisine, Latin rhythms, tastings of Ecuadorian products, visits to museums, markets, tourist sites, artisanal factories, and much more. These experiences help you learn Spanish while exploring the local culture.
We’re located in the historic center of Cuenca, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you can walk everywhere without needing public or private transport. You can combine Spanish lessons with beautiful walks along the city’s rivers, bike rides, park visits, or enjoying delicious coffee or chocolate at local cafes and chocolatiers.
Ecuador is known for having the world’s finest cacao, and you can savor it with traditional Cuenca sweets.
We offer a great Spanish immersion experience with programs and activities designed to create interesting and fun courses for children, teenagers and adults.
Cuenca, recognized as a Cultural Heritage city, is known for its exemplary use of Spanish in the country and around Latin America.

We are located in the heart of the city, near to the tram stop, in the safest city in Ecuador. Here, it is easy to walk or use the public transport and private taxis. The Equinoxio Center is certified by Ecuador's Ministry of Labor for students under specific programs.
Our facilities are in a modern, well-decorated republican-style house full of natural light.

Among our tourist and academic activities, we include city tours. As a Cultural Center, we also offer workshops on Music, Art, Latin American Culture, crafts, and more; ensuring students have an unforgettable vacation in Cuenca, where the climate ranges between 15C and 25C year-round.
The school is located between the new and the old part of the city, so it is the perfect starting point to get around it. The wood details and large windows overlooking the Tomebamba River of our early 20th century brick building, allows us to see hummingbirds approaching flowers from time to time. Each of our six spacious and comfortable classrooms are designed to cater to our small groups.
Our staff is at the disposal of students at all times, to assist them with any queries, not only from a language wise, but on any topic.A coffee maker with aromatic Ecuadorian coffee and a kettle with local herbal tea is also available. The school has WI-FI in all its spaces, even in the small outdoor garden. We always share information about weekly activities and everything that goes on in the city. The activities that we carry out at the school and outside are really fun.
THE NEIGHBOURHOOD
Cuenca is a city designed for walking, and there’s no better place to start a stroll than from the school to
Calle Larga, which its numerous museums, small restaurants and hotels, traditional bakeries and artisan workshops. The city center is another option, located only 500 meters from the school. If you’re interested in doing some shopping, practicing sports, going to the movies, or even attending a football match, a short walk is all you need to reach the new part of the city. This district maintains many traditional features, but amidst a growing cosmopolitan and varied offer.
THE CITY
With a history that goes back thousands of years, from the pre-Columbian to the colonial and the Republican eras, Cuenca is considered the most beautiful city of Ecuador by tourists. Its diversity manifests itself in its multiple UNESCO World Heritage Sites designations, the historic center, the Camino del Inca, or Qhapaq Ñan, and the recognition to the weavers of Panama hats. El Cajas, located nearby, houses one of the most important wetlands of the Andes. But more importantly, its warm and close people make foreigners immediately feel welcomed with kindness. Very close to the Pacific coast (Guayaquil is only a 3-hour drive away), and the border with Peru (only a 4-hour drive away), Cuenca is also the starting point for enjoying all that Ecuador and the Andes have to offer,
